Abstract

This book focuses on two of the three components of ‘threefold landscape transformation’: the societal, here in relation to the common sense understanding of landscape, and the individual, in relation to influencing and modifying the scientific understanding of landscape by individuals with ‘expert knowledge’. Here the social distribution of power becomes clear as a result of differentiation: There are people in society who are in a position to discursively anchor social reinterpretation options of landscape; others cannot, on the contrary, as they are threatened with the loss of social recognition. Innovations in interpretation from the context of expert communication then diffuse – also by means of systematic socialisation (specifically of the school) – into the common sense understanding of landscape (where they are then far less or no longer terminologically defined).
