Abstract
This chapter presents the fundamentals of the algebraic flux correction (AFC) methodology for scalar quantities. The first section gives a short and informal introduction to the field of bound-preserving finite element methods. Then the key ingredients of such methods are summarized (Section 4.2) and low order approximations with desired properties are derived for the hyperbolic model equations (Section 4.3).
