Abstract
The real estate sector and sustainability are closely interlinked. Buildings have a substantial impact on the natural and built environment by being one of the main consumers of resources and energy. Globally, real estate accounts for 40 to 45 percent of the total energy usage, 40 to 50 percent of the total raw material flow, 25 percent of the total fresh water usage, and 30 percent of the total waste.
