Abstract
Following a summary of my study’s main findings, in this concluding chapter, I derive implications for comparative foundation literature. Here, I want to highlight which aspect was congruent with the literature (for instance, the ambition of foundations to foster social and policy change to some degree), but also which ones were unexpected (for instance, their support of substitution and preservation as roles for foundations). Based on this, I develop a higher education foundation typology that runs from “funding through higher education” to “funding of higher education.”
