Zusammenfassung
Das Leben im 21. Jahrhundert ist nicht nur von Wohlstand und materiellem Überfluss gekennzeichnet, sondern auch von Zukunftsangst, Krisen und sozialem Ungleichgewicht (Küstenmacher/Seiwert 2004). Zeitgleich gewinnt das Lebenskonzept der Einfachheit immer mehr an Bedeutung, da dieses dem konsumorientierten Überangebot und der steigenden Komplexität entgegentritt (Fromm 2017; Tainter 2003; Etzioni 1998). Allerdings spielt der Gedanke der Einfachheit bereits seit vielen Jahrhunderten – vor allem in Religion und Philosophie – eine wichtige Rolle. Schon die Begründer von Christentum, Islam, Hinduismus und Buddhismus befürworteten und praktizierten Einfachheit durch Verzicht und Enthaltsamkeit (Gregg 2009).
