Zusammenfassung
Als Form der Hochschuldidaktik erfüllt das Service Learning auch empirisch gesehen die Anforderungen an ein „deeper learning“, wie es im Kontext der gesellschaftlichen Herausforderungen des 21. Jahrhunderts zunehmend postuliert wird. Wenn Studierende im Hochschulseminar nicht nur anhand von Theorie und Empirie neue Weltzugänge kennenlernen, sondern flankierend dieses Wissen auch gemeinwesenorientiert in Service Projekten anwenden können, wird das Lernen mehrdimensional: Fachliche Expertise wird durch authentische Möglichkeiten zum Wissenstransfer und Problemlösen gestärkt. Die Arbeit in „professionellen Lerngemeinschaften“ bereitet Studierende auf eine Lebens- und Arbeitswelt vor, in der die Lösung komplexer Probleme in der Regel eine interdependente Arbeitsleistung von Teams erfordert.
