Zusammenfassung

Gute Kenntnisse der Sprache des Aufnahmelandes gehören zu den wichtigsten Faktoren für die soziale und kulturelle Integration von Zugewanderten sowie für ihren gesellschaftlich-wirtschaftlichen Erfolg in Bildung, Arbeitsmarkt und politischem Leben (z. B. Chiswick 1992; Dustmann und van Soest 2002; Heckmann 2015). Wie Hartmut Esser aufgrund einer umfangreichen Studie pointiert festhält: „Die Sprache bildet einen zentralen Aspekt der Integration von Migranten, womöglich sogar den wichtigsten“ (Esser 2006, S. 23). In Österreich ist Deutsch im Bundesverfassungsgesetz als Staatssprache festgelegt (B-VG, Art. 8).
