Zusammenfassung

Die Anfänge der christmas studies werden häufig mit dem Erscheinen von John Alfred Ralph Pimlotts Buch »The Englishman’s Christmas: a Social History« (1978) in Zusammenhang gebracht (siehe z. B. Connelly 1999). Die religions- und wissenssoziologischen Ursprünge der christmas studies sind jedoch ohne Zweifel im Kontext der Berliner Soziologie zu suchen. Insbesondere der Soziologe Hubert Knoblauch hat, ausnahmslos in Vorträgen, die christmas studies begründet.
