Abstract
Cargo logistics providers invest major sums into their moving assets. In the U.S. and Europe alone, sales of locomotives, rail cars, containers, trucks, and trailers exceeded 25 billion Euros in 2002 (see U.S. Census Bureau (2005) and European Communities (2006)). Since the moving assets of a logistics provider account for a large fraction of the total assets and since the moving assets determine to a large extent the service level a company can o¤er, proper management of the moving assets is crucial.
