Zusammenfassung
In jüngster Zeit beschäftigen sich die Raumwissenschaften zunehmend auch mit Themen der Ernährung in Stadträumen und Quartieren. Ein typisches Beispiel sind die jüngeren Entwicklungen des mobile food vendings in den USA. Der Beitrag wirft einen situierten Blick auf die temporären Ökonomien der Food Trucks in Austin, Texas. Aus einer praxeologischen Perspektive werden den sozioökonomischen Praktiken von zwei unterschiedlichen Typen von Food Trucks – dem Gourmet Truck und dem Taco Truck – in einem soziostrukturellen, soziokulturellen und sozialräumlichen Kontext nachgespürt. Es zeigt sich, dass das Zubereiten und der Verzehr von Street Food eine distinguierende soziale Praktik des Alltagslebens ist. Die ständig wachsende Zahl an Food Trucks in urbanen Quartieren amerikanischer Großstädte spiegelt dieses wider. Während die Gourmet Trucks stärker die wohlhabendere weiße und Social Media-affine Mittelschicht ansprechen kommen Taco Trucks vielmehr der kulturellen Nachfrage hispanischer Identität nach.
