Zusammenfassung
Wissenschaft und die Kompetenzen wissenschaftlichen Arbeitens allgemein werden als unverzichtbar für die Arbeitswelt des 21. Jahrhunderts gesehen. Allerdings kursiert in der Wissenschaft der Begriff der Krise, in der sich die Wissenschaft befände. Darüber hinaus hat die Digitalisierung angefangen, die Arbeitsweise der Wissenschaft von Grund auf umzukrempeln. Vor diesem Hintergrund wird in diesem Beitrag die Frage beleuchtet, was die Wissenschaft im Allgemeinen und die Forschung im Besonderen ausmacht. Dabei werden einige ausgewählte Aspekte, die besonders einflussreich erscheinen, herausgegriffen. Der Aufsatz ist dreigeteilt: Zuerst werden die ungünstigen Auswirkungen von fehlgeleiteten Anreizen erläutert. Zweitens wird auf einige ungelöste und vielleicht unlösbare Probleme der Wissenschaft im Hinblick auf Determinierbarkeit und Messbarkeit abgezielt. Drittens werden die Folgen der Digitalisierung für die Gesellschaft von ihren Folgen für die Forschung gegenübergestellt. Das Fazit des Aufsatzes lautet, dass Ungewissheit Bestandteil des Forschens ist – und wohl auch bleibt und daher als solcher akzeptiert werden muss.
