Das BNE-Konzept orientiert sich an dem von den Vereinten Nationen global propagierten politischen Leitbild einer nachhaltigen Entwicklung. Bildung wird dabei als ein wichtiges Instrument für das Erreichen einer nachhaltigen Entwicklung gesehen. Hierbei ist die Konkretisierung von BNE kontextspezifisch.
