“It’s the economy, stupid!” Dieser Slogan verhalf Bill Clinton 1992 zum Sieg in den US-amerikanischen Präsidentschaftswahlen. Die fundamentale Bedeutung der Wirtschaft für die Gesellschaft mag rhetorisch überhöht werden, bestritten wird sie von niemandem. Von Adam Smith bis Karl Marx, von Friedrich August von Hayek bis John Maynard Keynes, von links bis rechts und in der Mitte sowieso steht die Wirtschaft im Zentrum politischer Gestaltung und begrifflich-theoretischer Anstrengungen.
