Zusammenfassung

Paul McLean untersucht im Rahmen seiner Monographie die kommunikative Konstruktion von Karrieren, Identitäten und sozialen Beziehungen mithilfe von Patronagebriefen im Florenz des fünfzehnten Jahrhunderts. Die mittelitalienische Republik wurde in diesem Zeitraum maßgeblich von den Medici geprägt und ist nicht zuletzt aufgrund ihres Wirkens zu einem kulturellen und wirtschaftlichen Zentrum der Renaissance aufgestiegen. Die Florentiner Aristokratie war durch ein vielschichtiges Beziehungsgeflecht vernetzt (vgl. Padgett und Ansell → 1993; Padgett und McLean 2006).
