Zusammenfassung

Mit der Jahrtausendwende und der weitgehenden Verfügbarkeit des Internet und seiner neuen Kommunikationsformen wird das Netzwerkparadigma zum zentralen Denkmuster. Ausgehend von den Sozialwissenschaften liefert es nun beispielsweise auch in der Physik und den Lebenswissenschaften neue Methoden, um relationale Strukturen zu erfassen und untersuchen. Da bereits Netzwerke mit wenigen Knoten und Kanten sehr anspruchsvolle Topologien aufweisen können, leisten Netzwerkdiagramme einen wichtigen Beitrag zum Verständnis relationaler Strukturen.
