Zusammenfassung

This chapter briefly describes the development of social science methods oriented summer schools on a worldwide basis during the last decade. This was initiated by the International Political Science Association (IPSA) and has developed into one of the major international political science activities. In this way, international research and social networks have been created which lay the foundation for evidence-based empirical research in political science on all continents. This, of course, requires a minimum of academic freedom and freedom of information, which has been achieved in many countries with the latest wave of democratization, but which also is at risk again in some parts of the world. In the development of these summer schools Werner Patzelt has played an important and continuing role.
