Vehicle electrification began as far back in history as 1859, when Gaston Planté invented lead-acid batteries to supply alternators and headlights on vehicles. In time, more and more electric components were added to standard vehicle equipment, which contributed to increased specific power demands. Furthermore, ecological concerns and rising interest in reduced dependence from traditional fuel sources (oil, petrol, gas) have further advanced the electrification of vehicles.
