Abstract

Writing scientific papers, reviewing, and publishing are based on honesty. Misconduct on the lab-bench level is almost impossible to detect for reviewers and editors. Screening of manuscripts using plagiarism check software and statistical monitoring programs provide important tools to the editorial staff to detect misconduct and may help highlight cases in which more detailed investigation may be necessary.
