Zusammenfassung

Der Wunsch und Gedanke, den natürlichen Alterungsprozess aufzuhalten und die Lebensuhr zurückdrehen zu können, ist so alt wie die Menschheit selbst. Immerhin hat sich die menschliche Lebenserwartung dank moderner Technologien stetig erhöht. Die demographische Entwicklung zeigt eine anhaltende Verringerung der Alternssterblichkeit und einen Anstieg maximalen Alters zum Todeszeitpunkt, welches die humane Lebensspanne graduell verlängern könnte.
