Abstract
According to the Polish historiographer Bronisław Geremek (1998), studies addressing the dynamics of deprivation represent one of the factors that gave impetus to the development of the social sciences. Nevertheless, a comprehensive and all-embracing conceptualization of the notion of deprivation remains complicated. This complexity is partly explained by the fact that the study of deprivation involves the need to establish a link between those who, for whatever reason, are deprived, and those who are not.
