The Radical Right and Religious Discourse

The Independent Greeks, the Lega Nord and the Sweden Democrats Compared

Das Narrativ von der Wiederkehr der Religion

Part of the book series: Politik und Religion ((PUR))

Zusammenfassung

Religion’s role in European societies today is described by contradicting narratives. While secularisation theory and privatisation theory presume that religion is losing ground or withdrawing from the public sphere, other sociological narratives attribute religion an ability to renew itself through and through, which only require “religious literacy” in the eyes of the observer (Moore 2016). Both narratives have normative implications: The former narrative suggests the disappearance of religion, the latter its persistence or its comeback.
