Zusammenfassung
Am 1. Januar 1999 wurde in elf Mitgliedstaaten der Europäischen Union eine gemeinschaftliche Währung – der Euro – eingeführt. Mit dem Verzicht auf eine nationale Währung ging auch der Verzicht auf eine eigene Geldpolitik einher. Stattdessen legt nun die Europäische Zentralbank die Leitzinsen fest und steuert die Geldmenge für die verschiedenen Mitgliedstaaten. Mittlerweile besteht die sog.
