Abstract

We now move to smaller scales where microscopic fluctuations have to be taken into account. Particle motion of this kind is naturally described within the framework of Langevin dynamics outlined in section 1.1.1 and the probability distributions in phase space are governed by the formalism of the Fokker-Planck equation 1.1.2.
