Abstract

The involvement of scholars in politics or in policymaking is not new in Turkey. National identity construction and state construction received an important contribution from scientific circles starting from the creation of the Turkish Republic. It was even part of the modernity of the political project to be constructed on a “scientific basis” (Boğaç & Turan, 2004).
