Abstract
In the subsequent sections the focal constructs necessary to explain the theoretical foundation of the thesis will be explained in the subsequent sections. Virtual collaboration in communities will be introduced, followed by knowledge boundaries, boundary objects, and shared understanding. A shared understanding is the result of an effective use of boundary objects.
