Abstract

I used methods of quantitative stratigraphy to rank, order and scale fossil events and ranges. The manual determination of the fossil succession can be difficult, especially when many sections with contradicting stratigraphic relationships (i.e. section 1: taxon A under taxon B; section 2: taxon B under taxon A) are involved. The manual determination of the fossil succession is time-consuming and leads to unreproducible results as each researcher can, for example, choose different index fossils.
