Robert N. Bellah, geboren 1927, gestorben 2013, lehrte 30 Jahre lang Soziologie an der renommierten Berkeley Universität. 1967 folgte sein Essay zur “Civil Religion in America” in dem der amerikanische Protestant und „public philosopher“ Robert N. Bellah sich mit der Rolle der Religion für den gesellschaftlichen Zusammenhalt seiner Heimat, der USA, erstmalig auseinandersetzt.
