Wir haben oben hervorgehoben, dass die Organisationssoziologie ihren Take-off in Harvard nahm. Grundlegende Ausgangspunkte für das, was sich von hier aus entwickeln sollte, fanden sich bei Pareto. Seine Unterscheidung von logischem und nichtlogischem Handeln ging in die Interpretation der Hawthorne-Experimente der Mayo-Schule ein und führte zur Entgegensetzung der ‚logic of efficiency‘ (Logik der formalen Organisation) und der ‚logic of sentiments‘ (Logik der informalen Gruppe).
