Mexikanische Einwanderer_innenfamilien, soziale Beratung und der Wandel von Familienwerten im Kalifornien der 1920er Jahre

Zusammenfassung

Dieser Beitrag untersucht an Hand von Akten der kalifornischen Einwanderungsbehörde über mexikanische Einwanderer_innenfamilien von 1917 bis 1930 Zusammenhänge zwischen Migration und Familie. Zunächst werden Theorien der Geschlechtergeschichte mit migrationsgeschichtlichen methodischen Ansätzen verknüpft. Dann wird anhand der Einwanderungsakten die Lebensrealität mexikanischer Einwanderer_innenfamilien, ihre Familienstrukturen, Kinderzahlen und der Zugang zu Konsumgütern rekonstruiert. In dem folgenden Analyseteil werden unterschiedliche Moralvorstellungen zwischen Eltern und Kindern im Gastland, Konflikte in interkulturellen Ehen und Ehescheidungen im Gastland USA diskutiert. Im Fazit werden dann Räume von ‚Agency‘ und die Möglichkeiten ‚hybrider‘ Familienstrukturen dargelegt.
