Introduction and Theory
The pulsed Electron Paramagnetic Resonance (EPR) Double Electron Electron Resonance (DEER) experiment allows to determine distance distributions within electron spin pairs introduced in biomolecules by site-directed spin labelling (SDSL) in the nanometer range. The obtainable distance range and sensitivity of the DEER experiment strongly depends on the transverse relaxation of the electron spin as this determines the maximal available dipolar evolution time in the DEER experiment.
