Abstract
Having shortly summarized research on social and educational mobility in general and on intergenerational downward mobility in particular in the last chapter, this chapter introduces micro theories that provide mechanisms to explain the reproduction of educational chances from one generation to the next. The theoretical framework of this study relies mainly on two approaches. The first is the life-course approach, which provides a broader analytical frame through its longitudinal perspective.
