Einleitend sei darauf hingewiesen, dass die Beteiligung Du Châtelets am Streit um die lebendigen Kräfte ihrerseits gleich in eine doppelte öffentliche Polemik eingebunden war: sowohl mit Samuel König als auch mit Jean-Jacques Dortous de Mairan.
