Zusammenfassung
Plattformen sind heutzutage nicht mehr nur Hardware- und Softwaregrundlagen, sondern durch ihre häufige (implizite oder explizite) diegetische Spiegelung gleichsam kulturelle Konstrukte, die sowohl als Rahmen der Spiele-analyse im Sinne der platform studies (für den Zugriff auf Produktionsbedingungen, das Zusammenspiel von Code und sichtbarer Oberfläche, die technischen Rahmendaten etc.) als auch als Binnenkategorie, Topos, Motiv oder kulturell gewachsenes Zeichen mit eigenen De- und Konnotationen (für den Zugriff auf die Bedeutung der Plattform innerhalb der Spiele-Diegese) analysiert werden können. Das Kapitel beschäftigt sich mit den historischen und zeitgenössischen Definitionsgrenzen des Begriffs und widmet sich spieleanalytisch relevanten Kategorien wie Portierung, Emulation ebenso wie dem derzeitigen Stand der Forschung in den Platform Studies.
