Numerische Mathematik (kurz: Numerik) kümmert sich um die Konstruktion, Computerimplementierung und Analyse effizienter Algorithmen für Probleme mit großen Datenmengen aus der kontinuierlichen Mathematik. Dabei bedeutet
- effizient: sparsamer Einsatz von „Ressourcen“ wie Rechenzeit, Speicherplatz;
- kontinuierlich: der Grundkörper ist (wie in der Analysis) R oder C.
