This study used the van Hiele model of geometric thinking and Sfard’s analytical framework on mathematical discourse to describe pre-service teachers’ geometric thinking and to determine the changes in their learning. The van Hiele’s and Sfard’s perspective of learning are described as follows: the van Hiele’s (1959) view learning as moving to a higher level of thinking, and argue that a learning process is similar to the process of learning a new language.
