MicroRNAs in malignant tumors of the skin

Abstract

The goal of this study was to determine the expression of the miRNA maturity enzymes Dicer and Drosha in actinic keratoses (AKs), cutaneous squamous cell carcinomas (cSCCs), and basal cell carcinomas (BCC) and to compare these expression levels with the expression in intra-individual and inter-individual healthy skin samples. This comparison should provide indicators of whether there is a change of the miRNA machinery as part of the carcinogenesis in epithelial skin tumors. For this purpose, first, intra-operative tumor samples and intraindividual and inter-individual healthy skin samples were collected through a 3-mm core biopsy. After RNA extraction.
