Zusammenfassung
The concept of “intergenerational discounting” refers to the idea that one needs to distinguish between the evaluation of projects that only affect the well-being of one generation and projects that affect the well-being of more than one generation. A discount rate that applies the traditional sort of time preferences in the context of intergenerational project evaluation does not adequately represent the overall (intertemporal) society’s preferences and therefore it is insufficient.
