Zusammenfassung

Plattformen und ihre Ecosystems sind allgegenwärtig und haben einen großen Einfluss auf unser heutiges Leben. Die bekanntesten Beispiele sind soziale Netzwerke wie Facebook, Spielekonsolen wie die PlayStation oder Softwareplattformen wie Microsofts Betriebssystem Windows. Im folgenden Beitrag wird das Ecosystem des Betriebs systems Android für mobile Geräte aus der Sicht von Google betrachtet. Seit der Gründung der Open Handset Alliance (OHA) im November 2007 hat sich Android als Operating System (OS) mit einem Marktanteil von mittlerweile rund 80 Prozent weltweit durchgesetzt. Heute kämpft Google nicht mehr um Marktanteile, sondern gegen Custom ROMs, Abspaltungen und die Fragmentierung der Android OS-Land schaft. Die Marktführerschaft setzt daher neue Anforderungen an die Managementstrategie der Plattform.

Dieser Beitrag gibt einen Überblick über das Android OS als Plattform und arbeitet die Besonderheiten in Bezug auf das zugrunde liegende Ecosystem heraus. Darüber hinaus werden Maßnahmen aufgezeigt, mit denen Google versucht, den entstandenen Herausforderungen zu begegnen.

Im ersten Teil des Beitrags wird eine theoretische Grundlage geschaffen, um im weiteren Verlauf das Android OS in die Plattform-Theorie einzuordnen. Darauf aufbauend wird erörtert, wie Custom ROMs und Abspaltungen das Android Ecosystem beeinflussen. Im abschließenden Teil werden Maßnahmen seitens Google zum Ecosystem Management dargestellt und bewertet.
