Zusammenfassung
In den 1980er Jahren wurde das Phänomen Weltmusik erstmals zu einer relevanten Kategorie der Musikindustrie. Auch wenn Internationalisierungs- und Globalisierungseinflüsse schon im ausgehenden 19. Jahrhundert bemerkbar wurden, hat deren Vielfalt und Ausdifferenzierung im Verlauf des 20. und 21. Jahrhunderts Dimensionen erreicht, die ein separates Kapitel zu diesem Thema erfordern. Die dazugehörigen methodischen und terminologischen Zugänge, welche wieder stärker kulturtheoretisch geprägt sind, lassen sich allgemein zunächst als Bewusstsein für die Relevanz der konkreten geographischen Orte, an denen musiziert wird, charakterisieren.
