Zusammenfassung
Im historischen Verlauf geht die derzeit andauernde Staatsschuldenkrise in Europa aus der im Jahr 2008 durch den Zusammenbruch der amerikanischen Investmentbank Lehman Brothers ausgelösten Finanzkrise und dem daraufhin einsetzenden weltweiten Konjunkturabschwung hervor. Europa und die Welt durchlebten seither zunächst eine Krise der Finanzmärkte, die sich vorwiegend in einer Bankenkrise und der Insolvenz einiger Finanzinstitute kennzeichnete. Eine Krise der Realwirtschaft folgte ab 2009, die sich in einem negativen Wirtschaftswachstum abzeichnete und sich ab 2012 mit einer zweite Delle fortsetzte.
