Abstract

Four major strands of literature form the starting point of the theoretical framework ex-plaining the contents and dynamics of party communication: theories of party competition, agenda-setting, representation, and Europeanization. In Figure 1, I depict the various, bi-directional relationships between the communication of competing parties, parliamentary activities, public opinion, and the European Union for the case of Germany.
