Vom methodologischen Nationalismus wird in den Sozialwissenschaften gesprochen, wenn Nationalstaaten „als abgegrenzte, unabhängige und relativ homogene Einheiten“ und konstituiert „durch nationale Grenzen, Institutionen und Gesetze“ beschrieben und unreflektiert als Untersuchungseinheiten der sozialwissenschaftlichen Analyse zugrunde gelegt werden (Beck/Grande 2010: 189).
