Zusammenfassung
Dieses Kapitel beschreibt das Potenzial sozialer Medien für die Polizeiarbeit in seinen reichhaltigen Facetten von Ermittlungen und Krisenmanagement hin zu Beziehungspflege und Mitarbeiterrekrutierung. Ferner diskutiert es rechtliche Frage- und Problemstellungen beim Einsatz sozialer Medien sowie gesellschaftliche Reaktionen, die sich aus der verstärkten polizeilichen Präsenz im digitalen Raum ergeben. Der Fokus liegt hierbei primär auf der sozialen Mediennutzung in Deutschland. Daneben werden Beispiele und Erfahrungen aus anderen Ländern, etwa Großbritannien, den Niederlanden und der USA präsentiert und diskutiert, um die Möglichkeiten und Herausforderungen polizeilicher Nutzung sozialer Medien in einem größeren Kontext beurteilen zu können.
