Kurzfassung
Der vorliegende Beitrag beschäftigt sich mit kulturellen Unterschieden im Verständnis von Diversität und Diversitätsmanagement. Dazu wird ein Vergleich zwischen den USA und Deutschland am Beispiel der Nachhaltigkeitsberichte der größten Banken und Versicherungen angestellt. Es zeigt sich, dass trotz der Strukturvorgaben der internationalen Nachhaltigkeitsberichtslegung deutliche Unterschiede erkennbar sind – sowohl was die erwähnten Sozialkategorien als auch Art und Umfang der Diversitätsmaßnahmen betrifft. So ist von US-amerikanischen Unternehmen eine Fokussierung auf die Dimensionen Ethnie/Hautfarbe, Geschlecht und sexuelle Orientierung/Identität zu erkennen, während deutsche Unternehmen vor allem auf die Dimensionen Geschlecht, Alter und Nationalität/ Herkunft eingehen. Begründet werden können diese unterschiedlichen Schwerpunktsetzungen mit der historischen Entwicklung des jeweiligen Landes, der Gesetzeslage und aber auch mit der Zusammensetzung der Bevölkerung.
