Abstract
Clean and efficient combustion is a generic goal and in particular for diesel engines a big challenge due to the use low volatile fuel and short time for mixture preparation. Hence, aside from other systems, the generic performance and the sophisticated layout of the fuel injection system to the engine has high importance for the engineer.
The focus of this paper is to present methodologies for the pre-evaluation of fuel injection system components and for their qualification in advanced passenger diesel engines by use of an injection system component test rig instead of performing tests on full engine dyno or in vehicle. The clear motivation here is time and cost saving.
