Zusammenfassung

Soziologie wurde in Südostasien erst nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg etabliert. Das Fach ist stark politisiert und steht im Schatten der Politikwissenschaften. Aktuelle Themen, die mit dem Ausbau des Nationalstaats verknüpft sind, bilden den Kern der Disziplin. Hierzu zählt auch der Bereich der Kultur. Aus dieser Perspektive können zahlreiche Wissenschaftler als Kultursoziologen bezeichnet werden, auch wenn eine derartige Selbsteinordnung nicht vorliegt.
