Abstract

This chapter highlights why a reference model for agent-based modeling and simulation is needed. Current problems and needs concerning design, development and application of agent-based modeling and simulation are presented first. Afterwards, terminology and purpose of reference models are presented, followed by requirements for a reference model for agent-based modeling and simulation.
