Abstract
This thesis contributes methods for accurate fully automatic segmentation of certain anatomical structures in 3D medical image data. Section 1.1 introduces basic terms and motivates the objective of this thesis. Section 1.2 describes the methodological and practical context in which this thesis was realized, lists the specific contributions of this work, and distinguishes related topics that are not discussed. Section 1.3 gives an overview of the structure of this thesis.
