Kurzzusammenfassung
2014 bestritten die Europarteien das erste Mal den Wahlkampf mit gesamteuropäischen Spitzenkandidaten, welche durch das Parlament gleichzeitig als Kandidaten für die Kommissionspräsidentschaft präsentiert wurden. Die Analyse der Berichterstattung in europäischen Leitmedien des Wahlkampfs und dem anschließenden Wettstreit zwischen Rat und Parlament um die Nominierung des Kommissionpräsidenten zeigt, dass die Wahl so zu einer institutionellen Politisierung geführt hat, die jedoch potentiell auch Raum für eine zukünft ig stärker inhaltliche Politisierung eröffnet.
