Empirical Literature Review: Bidirectional Relationship
Given the macro- and micro-level importance for people’s well-being and societal functioning, social involvement and social participation have been studied extensively. So far, the present study has concentrated mainly on theoretical approaches to social integration and the correlations between labor market integration and social involvement. This chapter focuses on empirical studies. In particular, it concentrates on studies examining the associations of social capital, engagement in groups, activities, and ties with labor market participation on the individual level.
